POST COVID-19 JOB DEMAND IN THE COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 caused a great deal of uncertainty in the construction industry in 2020. This lead to widespread redundancies, job losses and pay cuts.

Fortunately, at the back end of the year, as coronavirus slowed in Australia, momentum in the construction industry began to pick back up and job opportunities are expected to be greater in 2021. The key areas where improvement is expected to be the greatest are education, defence and commercial refurbishment.

EDUCATION

The education sector is expected to a number of construction projects throughout the year. Activity is being seen in small education projects with governments investing in state school refurbishments.

DEFENCE

The government is injecting money into defence all across the country, creating opportunities for those willing to work in regional areas.

A 10 year, $270 billion defence commitment by the Australian Government will include a $1 billion investment package to be rolled out over the next two years aimed at boosting the economy and further supporting the industry. The commitment is expected to create 4000 Aussie jobs.

COMMERCIAL REFURBISHMENT

An increase in flexible work environments as a result of the covid-19 pandemic has seen many businesses downsize their workplace or even vacate it completely. Now, as business owners and commercial property managers look to refurbish as a result, an increase in demand for commercial refurbishment has been identified.
