NO STOPPING ON THE WAY TO BECOMING A TRAFFIC CONTROLLER. 5 STEPS ON HOW TO GET THERE.
NO STOPPING ON THE WAY TO BECOMING A TRAFFIC CONTROLLER. 5 STEPS ON HOW TO GET THERE.
STEP 1
The first step in becoming a traffic controller is obtaining your White Card. A White Card is necessary for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry. If you already have yours, it is important to remember that it becomes void if you have not carried out any construction work for a period of 2 consecutive years.
A White Card can be obtained online or via a day course and costs around $55. The course consists of multiple choice and audio assessment questions. You will also need to practise applying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses and steel capped boots.
STEP 2
Next you will need your Blue and Yellow Cards (Traffic Controller & Implement Traffic Control Plans).
STEP 3
You are now qualified and can start applying. Email through your new qualifications and a few details to the appropriate agencies – they will likely require your driver’s license. Agencies receive a lot of applications so don’t be afraid to send them a follow up email if you don’t hear back right away.
STEP 4
Once you get that job, there will be further induction processes allocated to you by the employer which must be completed.
STEP 5
Get to work! Now that all the paperwork and formalities are out of the way, you can take your sign and get to work. It is important to consider that the job requires standing for long periods of time and is a serious responsibility. If you think you are up to it, start applying now!
