The number of women working in construction is substantially less than that of men. However, the majority believe this will change over the next 10 years.
In media, the construction industry is mostly represented by men, however within the industry, the number of women working is growing. It is not uncommon to see women in client and construction teams or working as subcontractors.
THE IMPACT OF COVID
The coronavirus pandemic has caused many to look at the issues and structures that are contributing to industry pain. Reductions in contact hours, increased flexibility and technology-enabled work are some of the results and are changes that could allow for greater participation by women in the industry.
IS PARENTING A CAREER ROADBLOCK?
One group who could benefit from these changes is parents. With a shift away from excessive work hours, an improved work-life balance has come about for many, leaving more time for family and private life.
BUILDING CONFIDENCE THROUGH CONNECTION
Networking with other women in the industry can be a major support for many women’s careers. When asked, women said that confidence was the number one thing holding them back.
